Location of Manufacture: Bidjar is a small town in Kurdistan about 30 miles (48 km) from the town of Senneh.

General Description: Rugs from Bidjar are distinctive technically as w ell as in their attractive designs and colours. Technically they are distinguished by the fact that they usually have five weft threads composed of two loose wool threads, one taut cotton thread followed by the loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots with a special tool, creating an extremely tight and compact rug.

The designs are mainly floral, Persian classical, though less sophisticated than rugs from the classical Persian centres. They are extremely charming and attractive. The herati motif is common, repeated to cover the entire field. Central medallions are also common. The borders are small in relation to the size of the carpet and may be composed of as many as eight bands. The wide main border often has the bot }eh motif, while stylised floral motifs are common on the guards. The border herati motif is also found.

Colour is very effectively used, with the decorative motif standing out against a dark background of blue, red or green. Turquoise as a design colour is used strikingly. Bidjar rugs are extremely strong and long-lasting.
